Shape Vehicle – ships concepts for the game
Our tutorial for today will be about creating a interesting shape vehicle – ships concepts for the game. This I think Is
somewhere near the initial stage of the process. So let’s get starting.
First I think I will create several customs but easy create brushes.
So here they are; made especially for users of this site.
As you can also see I’ve filled my background with dark yellow – orange color and I’m about to set my parameters of the first
brush – the flat one.
I’m beginning to paint here:
Just some patterns – seeking the form language I like to use.
Changing the aspect ratio just transforming the thing:
As you can see I’ve made some copies of the shape to experiment with layer blending options:
So I set one of my layer’s blending mode to Soft light I believe – or is it overlay – well- something like overlay: moreover
I made it bigger and applied a small amount of Gaussian blur to soften up the edges.
I’d like you to create a new layer now and paint with the brush you used in the beginning to paint some grey highlighted
areas. You can see the brush angle stays the same – so you can get it straight enough.
So the next part will be all about text so listen closely.
I’ve took the layer with these gray highlighted areas and created several copies of it: then, I’ve set one of layer’s
blending mode to vivid light and the other one (top) to pin light. Plus to that I’ve transformed the entire layers (No:
background and background pattern).
Changing the blending mode gave me wonderful color effect and tone value range.
And see what happened.
Now you can flatten the image.
I’ve refined some details – dropped some surface lights.
Than with brush #2 we’ll create some texture skin to the ships. The brush mode is overlay.
Draw pilot figure for scale – to understand better the size of the object.
Zoom in – zoom out.
Final step- creates a layer and set it’s mode to overlay. Instead of brush layer mode you can set the other blending modes
for the entire layer.
Select soft brush now:
Settings:
Expose the green tone: and that I think will be our final step.
