Setting Up Your Captivate File
Setting Up Your Captivate File
First, you will start by building a Captivate quiz. For another example of how to create interactive quizzes in Captivate read Andrew Chemey’s article, Output Options in Captivate—Part 1: An Overview of Tracking Options or Mark Fletcher’s article, Exploring Quizzing in Macromedia Captivate.
Here are the steps from the demo that you can follow, too:
- Start Captivate.
- Under Task Launch, select New Movie.
- Select Blank project and select the Preset Size.
- Click Finish.
- Select Insert > Question Slide…
-
The Questions Types options dialog box appears.
- Select Multiple choice.
-
Enter your questions and corresponding answers.
- Under the Options tab, select the Type option that relates to your question.
-
Under the Reporting tab, make sure to select the Report answers option.
- Click OK to close the Multiple Choice Question window.
- Repeat steps 5-11 to add additional questions.
- Under the Movie menu Quiz button at the bottom of the window, the Quiz Manager window opens.
- Under the Reporting tab, make sure to select the Enable output options.
- Select the E-mail option and enter a valid e-mail address (although you will not send the quiz as an email).
- Under the Reporting level pop-up menu, select Only report the score.
-
On the Quiz tab, under settings, select Show score at end quiz.
- Click the Settings… button.
- Change the e-mail button text to “Submit Quiz”.
- Click OK to close the Quiz Manager window.
- Save your project and click Publish. Select Flash movie file (.swf), name your file and select a directory to export the files to. Make sure that you select the Export HTML option, too.
- Click Publish.
- Close Captivate.
Great, you’ve accomplished the first part of this tutorial! At this point you can preview your quiz by opening the HTML file that Captivate produced. You will edit the JavaScript that displays the results of the test in the next section.
