Save As Microsoft Word 6.0/7.0 does not save file as .doc (FrameMaker 7.x on Windows)

Issue

When you try to save an Adobe FrameMaker 7.x file as a Microsoft Word document (DOC), you only see the option to save as MSW or a .fm extension is unexpectedly appended to the resulting file.

Solution: Explicitly include the .doc extension in the file name when you save from FrameMaker.

1. In FrameMaker, choose File > Save As.

2. Choose Microsoft Word 6.0/7.0 from the Save As Type menu.

3. Name the file and include the .doc extension. For example,use the file name “filename.doc”.

Background information

For some formats FrameMaker does not automatically change the extension. To prevent overriding your .fm file you will need to explicitly enter the .doc extension when exporting Microsoft Word.
