Making a GEM tutorial
Hallo and welcome in Hallo and welcome in making a GEM tutorial. In this tutorial we will make a stone. The thing is here is to figure our how the light bounces out of the many sides of the gem. Such things are often used in different RPG s and other games so hope you will find out something new for you. Moreover we will make a small series about the rocks, their texture and reflections.
Now let’s make a polygon gem.
I’m beginning to make a background here. In fact this is less important and you can make any background you want.
I will make it this way. Do some painting with the brush.
Blur the whole thing.
Transform and warp.
Use a mask to hide some effects. Oh and do flip the thing.
Now for the GEM. Choose polygon shape tool and make a shape.
Select the whole polygon, lower the opacity and create a new layer.
For filling the area with texture i will use a basic Flat brush. Actually you can use any brush with ripped edges.
Here are my brush settings. I will use my tablet to control pen pressure.
I’m using purple gamma changing the tone a little bit. The brush and pen pressure does everything else.
Now let’s make the side reflections.
Use Lasso Tool. Make this kind of selection.
Create a layer.
Choose this gradient and hold your breath.
Also apply a mask to hide the part of the effect.
Moreover play with opacity settings.
Create 2nd edge.
And, so on:
Now maybe the most important, if you a making the gem with such Polygon edges the reflections got to be correct.
I’ve used this Gradient to hide or expose my effect, my white gradient fill in this case.
Now a little general reflection and we are done here.
I’ve
also desaturated my background to pop up the gem. Well this is it i
hope you enjoyed and learned something from my tutorial, and I welcome
you into my nest tutorial on making the stones.
