Customizing a Question Slide
Customizing a Question Slide
Captivate offers a large number of ways to customize a question slide. In this section I discuss the following:
- How to change the number of times learners can attempt to answer a question slide correctly
- How to modify the title of a question slide
- How to add a background image to a question slide
Modifying How Many Times Learners Can Answer a Question
By default, learners are given only one attempt to answer a question slide correctly. To change the number of times learners can attempt a question slide, follow these steps:
- Select the question slide you want to modify and click the Edit Question button.
- Click the Options tab.
- In the If Wrong Answer area, increase the value in the Allow User…Attempts text box.
- Click OK to close the dialog box.
- Test the modified question slide by selecting one of the options in the Preview menu, such as From This Slide (F8).
With these changes made, if learners select the wrong answer and click Submit, a caption with the text “Please try again” is displayed. If learners answer the question incorrectly the second time, a failure caption will be displayed and the Clear and Back buttons on the question slide will be locked.
Modifying the Title of a Question Slide
After you insert a question slide, you can reposition objects or further customize it to comply with your organization’s or client’s style guide.
For example, double-clicking the title of a True or False question slide displays the Question Title dialog box (see Figure 10). Here you can specify how this object should be formatted.
Adding a Background Image to a Question Slide
You can also include a background image with your question slides to give your quiz that corporate look and feel (see Figure 11).
To include a background image, follow these steps:
- Choose Insert > Image.
- Browse to select the image you want to use and click Open.
- Click OK in the New Image Box dialog box.
- Reposition the image in the slide, as necessary, per your guidelines.
- Choose Edit > Merge into Background.
-
Click Yes in the warning message box. Your image now appears in the background of the slide (see Figure 11).
Note: This operation cannot be undone.
Note: Question slides cannot be exported and edited in Macromedia Flash MX 2004.
