Industrial Design
Hallo and welcome in industrial design or product design idea into life tutorial. So in this tutorial we will take an idea of a product and make it into life using Photoshop and wacom tablet.
Let’s start with creating a semi large sized document. Don’t oversize the document if you don’t need to nor if you don’t have at least 4 GB of Ram and a Quad processor, shall we say? Then we can speak of something like 10000 x 10000 picture sizes.
Create a new layer and get rid of all the white flashing background. Fill the layer with some kind of color.
Create another layer. On this one I’m going to use a noise gradient which I’m actually use very rare.
I would really like to apply a radial blur filter on it and color correct it in warmer gamma.
I didn’t really stopped at this moment and applied a watercolor filter which can be found artistic filter submenu.
I was quite unsatisfied with all the radial shape going on so I’ve just applied a Polar coordinates filet which can be found In distort filters submenu.
Here is my current result.
So this gave me an idea how should develop my concept.
Flip the image and chose a brush. The thing is that we have to cover almost all the background with background ( dark ) tone.
…Leaving only this area.
I’m painting some texture here with flat brush.
…Refining my object.
This was just the upper part of my lamp. I’ve already figured out that this going to be a lamp. I’m beginning to paint the whole lamp there on the right.
…Refining the lamp on the right.
…Letting know that this is a lamp, and not a stick. I’m painting a light ray.
I really think that every design needs some text to be finishes so here is mine.
…some outer glow:
And we are done here.
This is it for this tutorial I hope you learned something. And of course it is better to try it than to watch me do this on screenshots.
See you next time.
