Today we are going to create and to Draw a Character for, maybe, a video game or something like this. I will show you how Photoshop can be used (instead of Painter) to illustrate characters. So, our lesson for today is only about Hand painting on Tablet, tablet PCs or interactive displays. I will use Wacom tablet.

So let’s begin as usual: by crating a new Document and a new layer. I’ve created a 1024x768px. But for painting a human like character it is better to flip it, using this command. Now begin to paint.

Brush settings:

Let’s begin with the small sketch with basic forms and maybe a little design.

That is going to be our base design of our character. Continue with detailing:

More and more:

Work out on each basic part of the figure.

Head:

Something like this.

Now the Torso:

Well, that is about that. The rest will be done by color.

The beginning of coloring: Note to set the light POINT (I want that the light source is on the left).

Here is my basic color:

I’ve took care of the arms too.

Some color on the legs + boots design ? the sparkling color was made by using VIVID light.

I’ve changed a little bit of design me ? Really don’t like those Alien like eyes. I’ve also changed a little bit of character stature ? simply by transforming the selected are (ctrl+t).

Good let’s add some more details and colors ? dodge and Burn Tool (O) are very important it can save you time coloring and defining color gammas.

I’ve also changed HEAD location. Now it’s not so Popped Off.

Let’s draw a little bit of environment
Make 2 new layers especially for environment a set their position like this:

Use any SQUARE brush you want for glow ? use SOFT brush with screen or Vivid light blending mode.

And here we have it our soldier stepping out of the whole.
