How to create Festive Christmas card with Shining Decorative Star in Photoshop CS5
Now we have to create a kind of tail coming out from the big star. Choose the Pen Tool (P), set the drawing mode on Shape Layers in Options bar and draw the next shape as shown.
Set Fill to 0% for this layer and click on Add a layer style icon from bottom part of the Layers panel to select Gradient Overlay.
Click in the color bar to open the Gradient Editor and set the color stops as shown. Click OK to close the Gradient Editor dialog box.
We’ve got the next result:
Create a new layer and select the Soft Round brush.
Use this brush to paint the background on the indicated area with #FFEB00 color (brush Opacity – 10%).
Set the Blending mode for this layer to Overlay.
Create a new layer and select here the Soft Round brush to paint on the stars situated on the top left side. The brush’s color is #D40050 (brush Opacity – 15%).
We’ve got the next result:
Set the Blending mode for this layer to Overlay.
Create a new layer and select again the Soft Round brush of white color.
Use this brush to paint on the big star and the tail on the upper zone.
Set Fill to 53% for this layer and change the Blending mode to Overlay.
Insert the message text for greeting card. Select the Horizontal Type tool (T). Select a font, size and color in the Character panel.
Click in the canvas and type ‘Merry Christmas’. Press Enter to apply the text.
Next step we’ll download set of brushes for Adobe Photoshop, named: light_brushes_2. Copy the brushes file to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Presets\Brushes folder (Adobe Photoshop X been your version of Photoshop).
Create a new layer and load the downloaded brushes, select the next brush from light_brushes_2 set:
Use this brush to add many small stars of white color. We should add the stars of different sizes and use different Opacity values for brush.
Set the Blending mode for this layer to Overlay.
Make a copy of the last made layer and set the Blending mode for this layer to Lighten.
Create a new layer and select on it the Hard Round brush of white color (set Opacity to 15% in Options bar).
Use this brush to draw many small circles. Firstly represent a circle of bigger diameter and then inside of it one of a smaller diameter.
Set the Blending mode for this layer to Overlay.
Click Create new fill or adjustment layer from bottom part of the Layers panel and click to Curves to adjust the curve shape as shown to make a little color corrections.
