How to create Christmas greeting card with snowflakes and colorful tree baubles in Photoshop CS5
Now we have to represent the support element for the bauble, choose the Pen Tool (P), set the drawing mode on Shape Layers in Options bar and draw the next shape as shown.
Click on Add a layer style icon from bottom part of the Layers panel and select Inner Shadow.
Apply Gradient Overlay:
Click in the color bar to open the Gradient Editor and set the color stops as shown. Click OK to close the Gradient Editor dialog box.
We’ve got the next result:
Take the Ellipse Tool (U) to represent a small ring. Place its layer under the support’s layer.
Set Fill to 0% for this layer and click on Add a layer style icon from bottom part of the Layers panel to select Inner Shadow.
Add Stroke:
Select Fill Type – Gradient and click in the color bar to open the Gradient Editor, set the color stops as shown. Click OK to close the Gradient Editor dialog box.
We’ve got the next result:
Put together now the ring and the support element. Select now the Free Transform (Ctrl+T) command to make the layer smaller, placing the result as it is demonstrated on the next picture.
Make so many copies of the support’s element as it is necessary considering the number of baubles and select the Free Transform (Ctrl+T) command to change the copies’ sizes and positioning them as below. Place the copies’ layers under the spheres’ layers.
Click Create new fill or adjustment layer from bottom part of the Layers panel and click to Curves to adjust the curve shape as shown to make a little color corrections. Place this layer above all the made layers.
We’ve got the next result:
Now we have to represent the snow. In this case create a new layer and use on it the Hard brush of white color.
Use this brush to draw many small circles. Choose different Brush size and different Opacity value for brushes.
We’ve got the next result:
Set the Blending mode for this layer to Soft Light.
Make a copy of the last made layer and select the Free Transform (Ctrl+T) command to turn around the copy’s layer. Change the Blending mode for this layer to Normal.
Insert the mask on the layer by choosing Add layer mask on the bottom part of the Layers panel and choose the Hard Round brush of black color (set Opacity to 40% in Options bar).
Paint in the mask using this bursh to hide several snow zones as it is shown below.
Insert the message text for greeting card. Select the Horizontal Type tool (T). Select a font, size and color in the Character panel.
Click in the canvas and type ‘Merry Christmas’. Press Enter to apply the text.
Click on Add a layer style icon from bottom part of the Layers panel and select Drop Shadow.
We’ve got the next result:
Put together all the layers into a rasterized one. Hold CTRL button to select all of them in Layers panel and then press CTRL+E to Merge Down. On the resulted layer apply the next filter: Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask:
