Today we a re going to practice some painting techniques, so we’ll just paint a simple illustration that can be done in a hour or just something like that.

So let’s just create a new document and a layer and begin with the painting.

graphic design

Quite a standard size with only Pixel resolution set to 100 pixel per inch.

For the second stem just grab a round marquee tool and select a round area near the edge of the document.

graphic design

Copy the area in to a new separate layer.

graphic design

… And fill it will black color.

graphic design

Let’s try to make something of this area using layer stiles. Just to save some time. The Hand styling is way more powerful tactic.

graphic design

Here are my layer styles. I’ve just used smooth normal outer glow that works as a drop shadow effect in this case, and very funny pink to black lines gradient that goes round.

And here we have the result.

graphic design

It really looks like an eye to me, so we just continue with this theme.
…just change the size if the “eye”

graphic design

/// and I will begin to paint some hair. The reason I do this is I really not Excellent in painting real like hair, so it will be a little challenge for me.

I will start with just painting a silhouette and basic form. Ill do in black for now.

graphic design

When I’m in search of something (artistically) I make sure to test every one of my instruments, and especially y the brushes, because you make a lot of effects using different brushes with different settings.

So you must master that too.

I’m beginning to add some color here too. I pick color from my eye.

graphic design

Funny looking hair )).
Search, search, search.

graphic design

….adding detail, probably too early, but anyway, it is more like speed painting.

Try to set order to every part of the working process.

graphic design

You see, I’m changing brush size and settings on the fly, a lot of
times. I use no settings if I want just to fill an area with color and,
setting the brush size to pen pressure is I want smoother blending;
there are a million different situations, that is why you should master
how the brushes are in digital world.

graphic design

graphic design

….Very funny hair indeed).

graphic design

Now
we will do only hair refining. I’m using a large diameter brush for now
just to create a volume of hairs. You don’t really have to paint every
hair.

graphic design

….setting some value. We have a little light source from above.

graphic design

graphic design

now we are getting somewhere with our shape.

graphic design

graphic design

graphic design

I’m just using basic round brush. But I’ve flattened it a little bit to paint some hair details.

I repeat again – Master the brushes (if you are ready?).

graphic design

graphic design

….. And this is basically it, for Part ONE of my making of Power Puff (as it gets)))) tutorial.

Join me when I will finish the hair and give final adjustments to my work. Cheers and enjoy.
