What is FreeHand MX version 11.0.1, or “FreeHand MXa”?

FreeHand MX version 11.0.1, also known as FreeHand MXa, is an upgraded version of FreeHand MX (version 11.0). This release corrects several outstanding issues discovered since the release of FreeHand MX and requires product activation.

 What changes are in FreeHand MX version 11.0.1?

 Why was FreeHand not updated as part of the MX 2004 product family?

FreeHand MX was released after the other MX products, and was available for only 6 months before MX 2004 was released. For this reason, a MX 2004 version of FreeHand was not included with the initial MX 2004 launch. We are unable to comment on release dates for future versions of our products.

 Why does this version show up as FreeHand MXa in my program list?

FreeHand MX version 11.0.1 does not overwrite your existing copy of FreeHand MX. Instead, it will install in a separate directory and will appear in the program menu as “FreeHand MXa” to help you distinguish between the two. It is recommended that you uninstall your old version of FreeHand before installing FreeHand MX version 11.0.1.

Note: There is a known issue with removing the previous version of FreeHand MX once version 11.0.1 has been installed on some Windows systems. For more information about this issue, please refer to Uninstalling FreeHand MX will remove the icons and preferences (TechNote 18864).

 I currently own FreeHand MX. How can I obtain a copy of the FreeHand MX version 11.0.1 upgrade release?

FreeHand MX (version 11.0.1) will be included in the Studio MX 2004 box, or owners of FreeHand MX (version 11.0) may download it free of charge.

No. The original FreeHand MX (version 11.0) runs on Mac OS 9.2.x, while version 11.0.1 only supports Mac OS X 10.2.6 (minimum).

 I currently own FreeHand MX on Microsoft Windows NT, can I download the FreeHand MX version 11.0.1 upgrade release?

No. Version 11.0.1 does not support Windows NT. The original FreeHand MX (version 11.0) runs on Microsoft Windows NT.

 I am currently running on Mac OS 9. Can I still obtain a copy of FreeHand MX that supports Mac OS 9?

Yes. You can purchase a commercial box copy which contains FreeHand MX (version 11.0), or through an authorized retailer or reseller.
