Creative mixed-media composition in Adobe Photoshop CS5
Make seven copies of the line’s layer and choose the Free Transform (Ctrl+T) command to place the copies as in the picture below, getting a kind of net.
Combine in a group all the layers containing the lines (press CTRL button to select the necessary layers and hold on the left mouse’s button while dragging the selected layers on Create a new group icon from bottom part of the Layers panel).
Insert the mask on the group by choosing Add layer mask on the bottom part of the Layers panel and choose the Soft Round brush of black color.
Paint in the mask to change the visibility of the lines as on the next picture it is shown. Set Opacity to 70% for this group.
Apply the Line Tool (U) with Weight – 1px try to represent a line of grey color.
Using the same tool we should represent one more line of the color #DED2BF.
Insert the mask on the layer by choosing Add layer mask on the bottom part of the Layers panel and choose the Soft Round brush of black color.
Paint in the mask to change the visibility of the line’s layer as shown.
Apply also the Line Tool (U) with Weight – 1px to add three more white lines.
Insert then the mask on each layer containing the white lines (Add a Mask) and apply on the mask the Soft Round brush of black color (brush Opacity – 20%) to hide the lines’ edges, crossing the spheres.
We’ve got the next result:
Create a new layer and select the Soft Round brush of white color (brush’s Opacity – 30%).
Use this brush to make lighter the top part of the canvas.
Set Fill to 30% for this layer and change the Blending mode to Linear Light.
Next we have to make a copy of the layer containing the spheres. Place the copy’s layer above all the spheres layers. Apply on several spheres Smudge Tool to get the effect of their motion. Set the Blending mode for this layer to Luminosity.
Create a new layer where we’ll use the Soft Round brush to insert more shadows on the spheres.
Apply the brush using different colors and Opacity value:
Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) and click between the brush’s layer and the previous layer in Layers panel to create a clipping mask.
Set Fill to 50% for this layer.
Insert the mask on the layer by choosing Add layer mask on the bottom part of the Layers panel and choose the Soft Round brush of black color (set Opacity to 20% in Options bar).
Paint in the mask to hide the top parts of the made spheres.
Create a new layer and choose the Soft Round brush mentioned above to paint the top parts of the spheres with different colors and Opacity values.
Set Fill to 50% for this layer and change the Blending mode to Linear Dodge.
Click Create new fill or adjustment layer from bottom part of the Layers panel and click to Curves to adjust the curve shape as shown to make a little color corrections.
We’ve got the next result:
