Create a 3D presentation

Traditionally, a business presentation involving 3D models is created using many separate slides to present multiple two-dimensional views of the same model. Using Adobe® Acrobat® 3D in conjunction with Microsoft® PowerPoint, Word, or Excel, you can create an interactive 3D Adobe PDF presentation that conveys information more clearly and efficiently. In this tutorial, we will focus on embedding 3D design data in PowerPoint.
Download the Acrobat_tutorials.zip file to your hard disk from http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/tutorials/acrobat/acrobat_tutorials.zip to follow along with this tutorial. Alternatively, you can substitute your own CAD files of a similar type.
Create 3D slides
Acrobat 3D installs additional functionality in PowerPoint, so that you can embed 3D CAD models directly into your PowerPoint slides.
1 Install Acrobat 3D. Then start PowerPoint, open the Landing_Gear_Project_Status.ppt file in the Tutorial_files folder, and advance to the slide titled Product Overview.
Click the Insert Acrobat 3D Model button in the PDF Maker toolbar in PowerPoint to insert a 3D model directly into a presentation.
The same button appears in Word and Excel.
2 Click the Insert Acrobat 3D Model button on the PDF Maker toolbar. Select the Landing_Gear_Assembly.u3d file in the Tutorial_files folder, and click OK to insert it into the PowerPoint slide.
3 Resize the 3D window to make it larger, and choose Slide Show > View Show to view the slide show. Press the spacebar to advance to the Project Overview page.
4 Click the 3D model to activate it. Right-click and choose Background Color, click to select a new color swatch, and click OK to save the change.
5 Choose Views > Manage Views. Click New View to create a new view using the current background color, and then click Use As Default to set the view as the default for the model.
6 Click Convert To Adobe PDF in the PDF Maker toolbar to output the presentation as a PDF file.
After creating the basic 3D presentation in PowerPoint, use Acrobat 3D to add alternate views to 3D slides.
1 Start Acrobat 3D.
2 Choose File > Open, and open Landing_Gear_Project_Status.pdf. This file is the result of converting a PowerPoint presentation to a PDF presentation.
3 Advance through the PDF document to the first page containing a 3D view of the landing gear. Click a part to select it. Then right-click the part, and choose Part Options > Hide to hide it.
Right-click a selected part and choose Part Options > Hide to hide that part without removing it from the model.

4 Select the Zoom tool and drag upward in the model until the entire assembly is its largest possible size.
5 Click the Create View button in the Model Tree panel to save the current view. Then click the Default View button to go back to the original view.
6 Select the Zoom tool and zoom in so you can see the entire assembly, and then click to select one of the triangular members.
7 Right-click and choose Part Options > Isolate to hide all parts except the one being isolated. Then use the Zoom tool to zoom in until the part fills the graphic area.
8 Click the Create View button in the Model Tree panel to save the current view. Then click the Default View button to go back to the original view.
View the presentation
Use Acrobat 3D to view your presentation. Alternately, you can use Acrobat 7.0.7 or later, or Adobe Reader 7.0.7 or later.
1 Choose View > Full Screen, or click the Full Screen button at the lower left corner of the Acrobat 3D window.
2 Press the spacebar to advance through the slides, stopping when you get to the 3D model.
3 Click the 3D model to activate it and reveal the 3D toolbar. Click the Views menu and choose each view to show a different saved view of the model. Instead of creating a new slide for each view, you can use Acrobat 3D views to save alternate views, which you may or may not show your audience in a given presentation.
