Atlantic DEEPrees – Illustration of some king of sea base
In this tutorial we will make and illustration of some king of sea base. Learn how you can reach some effects in Photoshop.
Start by creating a document with 300 DPI resolution.
Then create a new layer to paint on.
I will fill my layer with rock pattern that can be found in Photoshop.
Make several copies of the pattern layer.
I will make some manipulations to my to pattern layer so it wont look so solid and straight lined.
Warp the layer ( ctrl+t and then warp icon)
To create more painted like look use Palette knife filter to warped pattern layer.
Here we have it.
Now create a new layer on the top of all other and fill it with black to white gradient with blending mode is set to color burn. It will give us basic vale and lighting guide.
Create another layer (layer3)
Make a selection on the left part of the image; overlay it with the same black to white gradient only with blending mode set to overlay. Also warp the layer and rotate it a little bit.
I really wanted to stick this one to some value change or something else, but I will leave this layer, this light for now.
We will use it in a couple of stages.
We will continue our work on the background.
Make a selection on the background.
Copy it to separate layer.
Make it a little bit smaller.
Make 4 or 5 copies of this very layer. And also transform each of them to create different sizes.
Merge these similar layers in one.
Here you can see the area with and without these details.
Now at first I wanted these little layers to serve as the details for
the background but then I’ve made some experimentations and the result
was way better that if they stood there on the background.
I will also make some color corrections only for my details layer.
So we have these objects on 1 single layer, you remember? If not, do it.
Go to filters > Distort > Twirl.
Here we have the result. I see here a very powerful architectural element.
Make several copies of this layer. Transform them to be 1 a little bit smaller than the other.
Let’s stop on 3 elements.
I really thing the picture will better if we flip it.
Now remember that layer in the very beginning. Now we will use it. Switch it on.
We have a very cool light ray here but it needs a little bit of blur.
I’ve also made a copy of this layer and cooled the colors a little bit using layers styles.
From this to this.
Now I want to separate the upper part of background from the lower part. For this I’m going o use quick mask.
I’ve
copied the upper part to a separate layer. You could see this in the
layer box that the upper part stays on the separate layer.
I’ve also overlayer the top of the image with cool gray background with layer mode is set to color burn.
Transform
this cool gray gradient layer a little bit. But this is not very
necessary to do. That effect It has could be hardly seeing, but
anyway…..
I’ve now made a selection, a small one and put it to color burn filling it with gray.
Now
I’ve made about 70 copies of this layer. Well it can be done easier
that it sounds. Just hold ctrl while dragging the layer.
This way we made some value to our background.
Now you can select all these little black layers. And merge them together.
Now to the architecture; Use outer Glow to each of the ARCS, select cyan color.
Layer styles can’t do all of it. So create a new layer choose a soft brush and paint some of the reflection and other details.
We will make some bubbles by setting the basic rough round brush to scattering.
Also a little bit soft green, crop the image a little bit and we are done with making a sea base.
Hope you’ve learned how some elements can be done ever without a tablet.
