Character Concept Art Illustration
Today we are going to make a character concept art using Wacom tablet and Abobe Photoshop.
So let’s begin.
Start by creating a new document and a new layer.
Now what I’m doing is choosing some kind of futuristic ornament brush. I’m setting a very big brush radius.
Only one stroke and symbolic background is ready.
Now create a new layer above Layer 1. This is going to be our layer
So take you stylus and begin.
Every artist has his own tourniquet and style. But one thing always remains the same, especially if you are a traditional artist: the structure of painting.
Almost every painting, especially if this it is a painting or sketch of organic character starts from line drawing.
The best way to paint using line drawing technique is to pick the very first brush on PS brushes box and set no Pressure and no opacity to it. Or just use a pen tool; it is up to you to decide.
Start to line draw
Draw these lines holding the shift key. It is necessary to form proper stature of the character. But actually in digital world you can do this in many ways.
Create another layer especially for character.
Start to draw character shape.
I’m not pretty happy with this. I will erase some parts now.
Turn the background off.
Some details like the case he is holding. It will be technician of some kind.
Now switch to dry a bigger brush to begin to lay basic colors.
In every illustration I switch between lots of brushes.
Now I will use the brush similar to dry media brush.
Here we have the base color, so called midtone.
To form shadows I use the color that is a little bit darker color gamma than the base color.
Refining the hand:
Put
the face color. Don’t waste your time cracking the skin tone,
especially the face, because it is very complicates. But the standard
face tone is somewhere between yellow and orange.
Further and further in refining the shapes.
Face shapes.
I like the lips to have orange tone.
The background color has been changed. I’ve used black to white gradient in layer styles with low opacity.
Some text and we are done here.
Our low detail level mechanical dude is done.
Enjoy!
